What is rapamycin?

Topical rapamycin is a medication that has shown promise in the treatment of aging skin. Rapamycin is an immunosuppressive drug that has been used for years in transplant medicine. In studies it has extended life in every animal tested. When used topically, it has been shown to reduce the incidence of skin tumors and improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

What are the benefits?

Rapamycin has been shown to have potential in the treatment of skin senescence, which is the deterioration of skin cells with age. Rapamycin works by inhibiting the activity of a protein called mTOR, which is involved in the aging process. As we age, the activity of mTOR increases, leading to a breakdown of cellular processes and a decline in skin elasticity. By inhibiting mTOR activity, rapamycin can help to restore cellular function and improve skin health. Studies have shown that rapamycin can improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

What are the side effects?

Topical rapamycin is generally considered safe when used as directed, but like any medication, it can cause side effects. The most common side effect of topical rapamycin is skin irritation, which can include redness, itching, and dryness. In some cases, the skin may also become more sensitive to sunlight.
